Terry Page, VK2JTP, Silent Key I was saddened to receive the news that Terry had passed away in September 2026, after a brief illness. Terry was one of the early experimenters in amateur radio Internet linking. My first contact from Terry was a brief e-mail in May of 2002, in which he expressed interest in a new software package known as EchoLink: "May I try it?" That was the start of a 24-year working relationship with Terry, who became the seniormost system administrator and a tireless volunteer, putting in many hours of work to validate new users and generally keep the system running. You might already know that one of the most time-consuming support tasks is validating new users, to ensure the security of the system. A breathtaking statistic is that Terry manually reviewed and approved 236,890 callsign submissions during his tenure as an EchoLink system administrator -- nearly 10,000 per year. He also authored several online how-to articles about EchoLink software setup and configuration. For his long-standing volunteer administration work on EchoLink, Terry was awarded a President's Commendation by the Wireless Institute of Australia (WIA). Based in a northern suburb of Sydney, he was a member of the Manly-Warringah Radio Society (VK2MB). I will miss Terry's dedication and optimism; he was a true gentleman, and a tireless advocate for Amateur Radio. -- K1RFD |
